योजनेविषयी
The scheme “MMKY - Promotion of Reservoir Fishery Production” was launched by the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, Government of Odisha. It aims to increase the fish production of reservoirs through the stocking of advanced fingerlings. Through this scheme, advanced IMC fingerlings are stocked in reservoirs to enhance fish production, productivity, and income of active Primary Fishermen Cooperative Societies and Self-Help Groups engaged in reservoir fisheries. The scheme is implemented by the Directorate of Fisheries, Odisha, with operational responsibility assigned to Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation Limited. The scheme covers reservoirs leased under the Odisha State Reservoir Fishery Policy-2012 and follows reservoir-wise stocking action plans prepared by the Directorate. Fingerlings of prescribed size, density, and species composition are stocked as per approved plans and fund availability. The scheme includes procurement, transportation, stocking, pre-stocking awareness, conservation measures, and structured monitoring at state, zonal, district, and block levels.
Objectives
- To increase the fish production of reservoirs through the stocking of advanced fingerlings.
- To ensure additional income generation of active PFCS/ SHG fishermen from reservoir fisheries.
- To uplift the socio-economic condition of reservoir-based fishermen.
- To enhance the productivity of the reservoir up to 410 kg/ha/year.

Step 1: Reservoirs leased to eligible Primary Fishermen Cooperative Societies or Self-Help Groups under the Odisha State Reservoir Fishery Policy-2012 are identified for fingerling stocking based on the scope of the scheme.
Step 2: The Directorate of Fisheries prepares reservoir-wise stocking action plans covering the identified reservoirs and corresponding PFCS/SHGs for implementation of the scheme.
Step 3: Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation Limited is entrusted with the responsibility for stocking the required quantity of fingerlings in the selected reservoirs strictly as per the approved action plan.
Step 4: Funds for stocking of fingerlings are placed with Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation Limited for implementation of the stocking programme.
Step 5: Fingerlings are procured from nearby Government fish farms or Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation Limited fish farms based on actual availability, and in case of shortage, from private hatcheries or seed growers covered under the state early breeding programme during September to November 2023 following transparent procedures, after finalisation of sources by Zonal Deputy Directors of Fisheries and intimation to the Directorate of Fisheries and Odisha Pisciculture Development Corporation Limited.
