Dehradun: Uttarakhand Congress will launch its 'Uttarakhand Nyay Yatra' on October 22, with four contingents travelling through different parts of the state to highlight what the party calls the BJP government's "anti-people policies" and pressing public issues. The campaign comes as the party prepares for the 2027 assembly election.
The first contingent starts from the Golju Temple in Almora, jointly led by Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and former chief minister Harish Rawat. It will pass through Ranikhet, Khairna, Bhawali and Bhimtal to reach Haldwani. On October 23 it moves through Lalkuan, Kichha, Sitarganj, Nanakmatta and Khatima to Rudrapur; on October 24 through Gadarpur, Bazpur and Kashipur to Jaspur, before concluding with a press conference in Haldwani on October 25.
The second contingent, led by state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal and MLAs Vikram Singh Negi and Lakhpat Singh Butola, begins from Badrinath Dham. It travels via Joshimath and Pipalkoti to Chamoli, then Nandprayag, Karnaprayag and Gauchar to Rudraprayag. A preparatory meeting for the party's proposed Vidhan Sabha Gherao in Gairsain is scheduled for October 26.
The third contingent, led by former state chief Pritam Singh and former MLA Jot Singh Gunsola, sets out from the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Dehradun. The fourth, led by election management committee chairman Harak Singh along with several MLAs, starts from Haridwar on October 23. "The Nyay Yatra will be held in other assembly constituencies after the Vidhan Sabha Gherao," state Congress media chairperson Rajiv Maharshi said.
Rawat has earlier led similar marches to press the state government. Congress says the Dhami government has failed on jobs, migration, health and education, and that the Yatra will carry those issues to voters. The Vidhan Sabha Gherao will be the next stage of the campaign.
