Chennai: Chennai police have registered a case against DMK councillor Sudha Deenadayalan and party functionary Muralidharan over alleged derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

The case was registered at the Esplanade police station. Deenadayalan represents Ward 95 in the Villivakkam area and is the DMK's Chennai East district women's wing organiser.

The remarks were allegedly made at an event at Raja Annamalai Mandram in Chennai on October 7. Udhayakumar, the Harbour area secretary of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), filed a complaint with the police on October 18.

According to the complaint, the speech was intended to provoke conflict and create tension among the public. In a video that circulated on social media, Deenadayalan is purportedly heard using objectionable words against Vijay while responding to remarks about DMK president M.K. Stalin.

DMK MP Kanimozhi, former minister P.K. Sekar Babu and Chennai Mayor R. Priya were present at the event.

TVK general secretary and Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna criticised the DMK and sought legal action against the councillor. The DMK, however, released a video showing Kanimozhi and Sekar Babu advising Deenadayalan to maintain decorum after the programme.

The TVK, led by Vijay, is in power in Tamil Nadu, while the DMK is in the Opposition. The row follows a confrontation in the assembly over Stalin's appearance, which Vijay earlier described as inadvertent.
