Riyadh: One Indian national was injured in an attack on Saudi Arabia's Shaybah oilfield and the embassy is in touch with Saudi authorities, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh said. "The Embassy has learnt that one Indian national was injured in an attack at Shaybah oilfield today. We are in touch with Saudi authorities and await further details. We will provide all necessary help to the injured Indian national," the embassy said.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy said air defences thwarted an attempt to target the Shaybah field, and shrapnel falling after the interception killed two residents and injured two others. The attack had no impact on the facility's operations, the ministry said. Those injured are reported to include an Indian and a Pakistani national.

In a separate incident, one resident was killed and eight others were injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia on Wednesday evening, the kingdom's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said. The injured, whose condition ranged from minor to critical, were taken to hospitals, the authority said. The attack caused property damage and the extent was being assessed.

The attacks came as conflict intensifies between Houthi forces in Yemen and the Saudi-backed internationally recognised Yemeni government. Last week, a projectile strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport killed one person and injured 11, while an attack on October 10 at the same airport killed 12 people and injured more than 300, according to the Saudi civil aviation authority.
