A slip of the tongue': Ranbir Kapoor apologises for Dussehra gaffe at Ramayana event

Chennai: Actor Ranbir Kapoor apologised on Wednesday for a slip of the tongue at a Dussehra event. He was speaking at the grand musical event and full-album launch of his upcoming film Ramayana in Chennai. "I want to apologise about an incident that happened yesterday while I was at a Dussehra event. I had a slip of the tongue. What I was meant to say is 'burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun na ho, aakhir mein jeet sacchai aur achchai ki hogi'," Ranbir said.

On Tuesday, at a Dussehra event in Kolkata, he had said, "burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun na ho, aakhir mein ant sacchai aur achchai ki hi hogi." His use of "ant", meaning end, instead of "jeet", meaning victory, reversed the meaning, and the clip went viral on social media and drew trolling. The slip drew extra attention as he is set to play Lord Ram in Ramayana.

While apologising, Ranbir recalled his work with A.R. Rahman on the film Rockstar and quoted a line from its song: "Jo bhi main kehna chahu, barbaad kare alfaz mere." "Whatever I want to say, my words ruin it," he said, and apologised again.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release in theatres on November 5, 2026. Ranbir Kapoor plays Ram, Sai Pallavi plays Sita and Yash plays Ravana. Sunny Deol features as Hanuman. The music is by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. At the Kolkata event, it was announced that Ramayana would be made tax-free in West Bengal.
