Mumbai: Six days before it opens, and with not one show yet screened for the public, Ramayana has already sold ₹17.08 crore of tickets in India.

Advance booking data on Friday morning showed 3.33 lakh tickets sold across 6,780 shows. Excluding seats blocked by exhibitors and bulk buyers, the figure is ₹14.23 crore from 2.74 lakh tickets, with total occupancy at 21 per cent.

The pace has not slowed. Since the 6 am cut-off on Thursday, the film added ₹1.52 crore, a 10 per cent rise, and 398 more shows were added to the schedule, taking the count from 6,382 to 6,780. Another 35,517 tickets were sold in that window.

Language splits tell their own story. The Hindi version has brought in ₹14.17 crore, nearly 83 per cent of the advance gross. Kannada is at ₹2.36 crore, about 14 per cent — a figure that maps directly onto Yash playing Ravana. The Telugu version has earned ₹49.69 lakh and the Tamil ₹5.49 lakh.

Among cities, Delhi-NCR leads with ₹3.05 crore from 41,115 tickets. Bengaluru is next at ₹2.85 crore from 49,579 tickets, and it has grown 16 per cent since the previous day — the sharpest rise among the five cities tracked. Mumbai has contributed ₹2.29 crore from 32,953 tickets, Hyderabad ₹89.35 lakh from 25,593 and Kolkata ₹67.85 lakh from 12,446.

Nitesh Tiwari directs the two-part adaptation. Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman and Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman. Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus, working with DNEG, co-produces with Yash's Monster Mind Creations.

The film had its world premiere in Los Angeles on October 27. Early reactions, as reported from the screening, praised the scale, the music and the action, with Ranbir Kapoor's Rama and Yash's Ravana drawing the most comment. Some viewers compared the experience to The Lord of the Rings; others said the spectacle sometimes overwhelms the story's emotional core.

Release is on November 5, Diwali day. Part 2, earlier slated for Diwali 2027, has been moved to Diwali 2028.

The pre-sales number matters beyond this film. A Hindi-language mythological at this price point, opening on the biggest cinema weekend of the year, is the clearest test yet of whether the post-pandemic big-screen habit has actually returned — or whether the audience will simply wait eight weeks for streaming.
