New Delhi: A Parliamentary Standing Committee will examine the integrity of national examinations and consider reforms to the public examination system, according to the subjects it has picked for 2026-27.
The department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports was reconstituted in September for a one-year term. A Lok Sabha bulletin lists its chosen subjects.
The trigger is visible in the committee's own brief. The previous panel examining the issue observed that cancelling NEET-UG 2026, despite measures taken to protect the exam, showed the need for stronger procedural and institutional reforms.
Coaching centres are squarely in scope. The committee will review their functioning, the regulations governing them, how those rules are enforced and whether they are complied with.
The panel will also review the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and the functioning and performance of the National Council of Educational Research and Training, the Central Board of Secondary Education and the Central Advisory Board of Education. For the CBSE, the review covers affiliation, regulation, examination conduct and its overseas ventures.
Student welfare and support systems in school education will be examined too, including health, safety, mental well-being, inclusive education and grievance redressal.
Two forward-looking subjects are on the list: the impact of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies on education and on students' employability, and the implementation of UGC regulations and guidelines on the internationalisation of higher education.
The review runs parallel to the criminal case. On Thursday, a Delhi court reserved its order on framing charges against 14 accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case and said it will pronounce the order on November 18. The CBI filed a charge sheet against 13 people in July and a supplementary charge sheet against the 14th, Sheshrao Bajrang Suryavanshi of Pune, after his arrest on September 2. The agency has alleged that Suryavanshi arranged the leaked NEET-UG 2026 questions for candidates, taking their original educational certificates as surety for payment, in conspiracy with charge-sheeted accused Shubham Khairnar.
