NEW DELHI: Congress's student wing, the National Students' Union of India, burnt an effigy of Ravan fitted with the masks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on Tuesday, Dussehra day.

The effigy also carried the faces of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and industrialist Gautam Adani. Workers raised slogans such as 'vote thief, quit your seat'.

In Lucknow, NSUI workers held a similar protest the same day, burning an effigy of CEC Gyanesh Kumar designed as Ravan and raising slogans against him. That demonstration, at the Youth Congress office, was led by NSUI Uttar Pradesh Central state secretary Ashutosh Mishra.

The protests come amid allegations of irregularities in the electoral rolls and demands for Kumar's resignation. These are the protesters' claims and have not been established as proven wrongdoing.

NSUI is the Congress's student wing, and the protest was timed to Dussehra. Workers raised slogans such as 'vote thief, quit your seat'. In Lucknow, the effigy was designed as Ravan, a mark of the protesters' opposition to the Election Commission's functioning.
