New Delhi: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday, with trade, defence and technology ties on the agenda, in the first visit by a Polish prime minister to India in 16 years.

The two leaders delivered a joint press statement at Hyderabad House after high-level bilateral talks. Tusk said he would travel to Bengaluru, "the heart of the Indian Silicon Valley", accompanied by entrepreneurs and managers, including representatives of the Polish Space Agency and key companies in the space industry and new technologies.

Earlier in the day, Tusk visited Raj Ghat. Officials said the talks covered deepening bilateral trade, technology and strategic ties.

Poland, which is expanding its military capabilities amid regional security pressures in Eastern Europe, is looking to partner with India under domestic manufacturing initiatives. Its defence industry has shown interest in Indian programmes.

The visit also comes as India pushes to deepen ties with European partners. Trade, defence and the Russia-Ukraine conflict are expected to dominate the talks, officials said.

Modi has said India will support every meaningful effort to bring peace to Ukraine and West Asia. The two sides are expected to discuss economic cooperation and people-to-people links as well.

India and Poland share long-standing ties, and Warsaw is seen as a key European partner. Defence cooperation was a focus, with Polish firms showing interest in investing in India. There is also scope for collaboration in the space sector, officials said. The two sides are expected to build on economic ties and people-to-people links.
