Chennai: Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 is tearing up the box office. Released on October 15, the sequel crossed the Rs 300-crore mark in India within its first week.

On Wednesday the film collected Rs 28.15 crore net in India, taking its seven-day domestic net to Rs 317.20 crore. Occupancy across 14,438 shows stood at 33.7%.

Its India gross is Rs 371.45 crore, while worldwide earnings have climbed to Rs 576.45 crore. Early trends on day eight showed about Rs 1.30 crore by 11 am.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 so far. Audiences are still turning up even after the festive season wound down.

The sequel is now closing in on the lifetime domestic collection of its predecessor, Jailer (2023). It has also entered the list of the year's top-earning Indian films.

For Rajinikanth's fans, the run is far from over.

The film's success rests as much on Nelson Dilipkumar's direction as on Rajinikanth's pull. It packs cameos by several leading actors, and audiences are cheering them. The strong run is a relief for theatres after a patchy season. Jailer 2 is expected to keep collecting for a few more weeks. It has joined the year's front-running Indian films, with fresh releases due in the coming weeks.

A chunk of the film's earnings has come from the festive period. The fact that footfalls held up after Dussehra is a relief for distributors. With fresh releases due in the coming weeks, competition for screens will grow. Even so, Jailer 2 is expected to keep going.
