Diwali week on OTT: a blind man, a forest spirit and a gambler walk into your living room

Two star-led Hindi films arrive on November 6: Haiwaan with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan on SonyLIV, and The Vvaan with Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia on Prime Video. Dulquer Salmaan's I'm Game lands on JioHotstar the same day, and Dilwali Diwali is on Netflix for the festival itself.

Mumbai: Theatres had their run through September and October. This week the festival viewing shifts home, and the biggest Hindi titles arrive on the same evening.

Haiwaan, Priyadarshan's neo-noir thriller with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, streams on SonyLIV from November 6. Saif plays Shyam Rane, a visually impaired maintenance manager in a Mumbai housing society who becomes a murder suspect after a retired Chief Justice, played by Boman Irani, is killed. It is a remake of Priyadarshan's own 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, with Mohanlal putting in a cameo, and it brings the two leads back together on screen 18 years after Tashan. The film also carries the last screen appearance of Asrani, who died in 2025.

The Vvaan: Force of the Forest arrives on Prime Video the same day, initially on a rental basis rather than as part of the subscription. Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia headline the fantasy thriller, directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, who made Panchayat. It follows Rishi, who returns to his ancestral village and breaks an ancient seal in a forbidden forest, and it is the first Hindi film built around Chhath Puja. It released in cinemas on September 25.

Malayalam gets the action slot. I'm Game, with Dulquer Salmaan as Dan John, a wealthy gambler drawn into cricket betting and criminal rivalries, premieres on JioHotstar on November 6 in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Nahas Hidhayath directs, and the cast includes Kayadu Lohar, Antony Varghese and Mysskin.

For the festival itself, Netflix has Dilwali Diwali on November 5, a family drama with Mihir Ahuja, Manoj Pahwa and Neelu Kohli, about a son who returns from abroad with a new flat and finds his parents unwilling to leave the old one.

Also on November 5, Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw return in the second season of the British spy thriller Black Doves on Netflix. On November 4, ZEE5 has Blind Game, a Hindi crime thriller with Arjun Rampal and Priyamani, directed by the late Sangeeth Sivan, and Prime Video begins The Greatest, an eight-episode series on Muhammad Ali with Jaalen Best in the title role.

The regional slate fills the rest. Meesaya Murukku 2, Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's Tamil musical comedy, is on SonyLIV on November 6, and Nooru Kodi Vaanavil, a Harish Kalyan romance that has waited years for a release, premieres on ZEE5 the same day.

The week's quiet winner might be the smallest title. Minions and Monsters has been on JioHotstar since November 2, with a Telugu dub, for the households where the youngest viewer picks the film.
