New Delhi: Delhi Police has acted on the revolt in its own ranks. Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashishta was suspended late on Monday.
The order said an inquiry found she gave seniors incorrect information, incited subordinates to demonstrate and shared a social media post against a superior officer.
On October 30, hundreds of personnel, mostly from the north district, raised slogans against the Police Commissioner at headquarters for about two and a half hours. CRPF was called in to restore control.
The personnel put forward five demands: withdrawal of an FRRO circular, resolution of pay anomalies, an end to pick-and-choose in rewards, a time-bound probe into corruption allegations, and restoration of what they called the rule of law.
The inquiry at Lok Nayak Bhawan is also examining the role of Special CP (Security) Gajendra Singh Bisht and two other officers, Satyavir Singh, ACP (operations), and Shweta Kaushik, station house officer at Tughlaq Road.
Police have recorded statements from around 100 personnel. Women personnel alleged that a senior officer kept staring at them and used indecent language.
About 30 women from the women's security wing are part of the petition and have given statements.
Open protest of this kind is rare inside the Delhi Police, a force that has not seen a public display of internal dissent in decades.
The suspension has not settled the demands. Representatives of the personnel have not yet announced their next step.
The background is tangled. Officials said the inquiry records a link drawn between the demonstration and the 2020 Delhi riots. That claim has not been independently verified.
