Dapoli (Ratnagiri):

In Konkan, known for its scenic beauty, a new and ambitious initiative is taking shape in Dapoli taluka. It aims to connect tourists directly with the soil and traditional farming, not just offer them sightseeing and a place to stay. Ideal Agro Tourism LLP is planning a large agro-tourism complex on the wide grounds of the scenic Tangar dam in Dapoli. The project's biggest feature is that visitors will get a rich experience of farming culture, while a well-equipped 'food park' is being set up to ensure local farmers get a fair price for their produce.

Not just a stay, but a real taste of farm life

The complex is being developed to introduce urban visitors to rural life, livestock and traditional farming methods. Visitors will be able to see up close a range of farm-linked activities:

Poultry Farming: Rearing of indigenous and improved breeds of hens.

Goat Farming: Modern, enclosed goat-rearing management.

Fisheries: Freshwater fish farming based on the water available from the dam.

Dairy Farming: Conservation of indigenous cows and traditional cattle-rearing methods.

Seasonal crops and horticulture: Hands-on experience of work in Konkan's traditional paddy farming and in mango, cashew, areca nut and coconut orchards.

Food park: adding value through processing local produce For Konkan farmers, getting a fair price and a market for their produce has long been a major challenge. To tackle this, a 'food park' is being built within the agro-tourism complex.

Through this food park: Agricultural produce from local farmers and orchard owners will be processed directly.

Fruits, cereals and spices will be processed into various products, which will add value to the produce.

Thousands of tourists who visit will create a direct and sustainable market for local products.

Local youth will get direct self-employment opportunities in processing and tourism.

A golden confluence of farming, tourism, processing and markets

Built on the four-pronged idea of 'Agriculture • Tourism • Processing • Market', the project is expected to give a new direction to the rural economy of Konkan, the company said. The initiative runs under the motto 'Shodh Asli Konkancha' (In search of the real Konkan), and it is expected to inspire young people in Konkan to build sustainable businesses in their own villages.
