Bhiwandi: The historic stone school building in Bhiwandi where Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray had his primary schooling has fallen into disrepair.

The state should release Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore to preserve and renovate the structure, corporator Roma Nilesh Aalshi has told deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde.

The stone school tied to Balasaheb's early education is a historic building in Bhiwandi, and its rundown condition has now drawn attention.

Aalshi has put the funding request to the deputy chief minister, saying the money should cover both conservation and repair. The government's final word on the demand is not yet clear.
