Aichi-Nagoya: India's medal count at the Asian Para Games 2026 crossed 70 on Thursday, with a compound archery gold for Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar and a discus title for Suvarna Raj leading the day's haul.
Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar won the compound mixed team gold, beating Indonesia's pair 151-148 in the final. Suvarna Raj took gold in the women's F54 discus throw, while Swati Chaudhary settled for silver in the women's W1 recurve archery event. Two bronze medals came in badminton, for Manisha Ramdass and Pramod Bhagat in the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 category, and for Krishna Nagar and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan in the mixed doubles SH6.
By 11:50 am IST on Thursday, India stood fifth in the standings with 16 gold, 22 silver and 33 bronze, 71 medals in all, according to the Games tally. China led the table.
Para-athletics has been India's engine. On Wednesday, Simran Sharma set a Games record of 12.02 seconds to win the women's 100m T12, completing a sprint double after her 200m T12 gold. Praveen Kumar won the men's high jump T44/64 with a Games record, Sachin Khilari took the men's shot put F46, Dilip Gavit won the men's 100m T47 in 10.69 seconds and Ayush Verma topped the men's shot put F53. Preethi Pal added a second silver in the women's 100m T35.
Athletics alone has contributed the bulk of India's medals, and the contingent is contesting a wide spread of events across swimming, powerlifting and boccia. Competition continues through Saturday.
India's Sheetal Devi, who shoots with her feet, had earlier in the week won silver in the women's doubles event with Payal Nag.
