Nagoya: India crossed the 100-medal mark at the Asian Para Games 2026 on Friday, as two athletes broke world records in quick succession at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Sandeep Singh Maan won gold in the men's 400m T64 in 52.28 seconds, a world record and more than a second inside his personal best. Ajay Kumar added bronze in 53.61 seconds in the same event.
Minutes later, javelin thrower Haney won gold in the men's F37/38 event with a throw of 60.49 metres, breaking the world record of 57.81m set by China's Xia Dong in 2008. Haney had earlier won gold in the same event at the previous edition.
In shooting, Mona Agarwal set a world record in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event with a score of 357.5, bettering the previous mark of 356 held by Sweden's Anna Benson. Avani Lekhara finished fourth.
In archery, Harvinder Singh and debutant Vijay Sundi won the men's recurve doubles gold, beating the Chinese pair 5-1. In badminton, Nitesh Kumar beat compatriot Pramod Bhagat 21-18, 21-16 in the all-Indian men's singles SL3 final, and Naveen Sivakumar won the SL4 title.
Earlier, Pooja Jatyan and Bhawna Choudhary secured India's first medal in the women's recurve doubles, taking silver. With the gold rush continuing, this edition is shaping up as one of India's strongest at the Games. India's gold tally has reached 25, with the total count past 100, against 27 golds at the previous edition in Hangzhou — a mark this campaign looks set to challenge. With several medal events still to come on the final day, the count could rise further. In badminton, Thulasimathi Murugesan and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan had to settle for silver in their finals. India has also collected a large haul of silver and bronze medals across the Games.
